End of the month run

Ok, so started bright and early in the morning after dropping my girlfriend off at work - good thing too otherwise I probably would have slept in!! Starting grinding about 8:00 and went til 4:00. Got 78 games in. Fuckin brutal day though, I got supremely crushed in the beginning and somehow won a $6 and a $3 at the very end to breakeven for the session.

I was super happy with my final table play at the end of the session - I think I was playing a bit weak in the morning, dunno why - felt like I was shoving in all the wrong spots plus getting owned by the Monday Regs. The weekend games seemed so easy compared to this.

Though, I was down to 1bb on the $6 final table, and THIS happened: http://weaktight.com/3298568

Unbelievable - and I came back ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!! Let that be a word of advise - do not ever give a good player an inch because it quickly becomes a foot, becomes a yard, becomes a mile :)

I'm starting to adjust my final table play a bit more because of this. There is more fold equity on the final table, maybe more than I'm seeing on the bubble. I can see why you can take a bit more caution with shoves there now, but not too much these turbos eat you alive if you let them.

Arg, I have 82 more games if I want to meet my monthly quota. Right now I'm surviving on 3 1/2 hours of sleep and a Red Bull. Stay tuned to see if I actually do it...

2/27

Short month took my by surprise this year and I've been having to cram in games past few days. Kinda like a trial by fire... But it's been great!!

-Broke my personal record for most games played in a day: 101
-Longest streak of days in the positive: 6

I am so tired - just finished the second set for Sunday, but I really want to get in the remaining 160 games tomorrow. I have 9 hours in the daytime and maybe another 3-4 at night. Can it be done? The $3's load like crazy so we'll see!

tableninja...

you suck sometimes - will full tilts break system I almost always have a few new tables that don't go on the hourly break. So I usually sit-out all tables if I have to attend to something. Unfortunately the past few days when I come back and reclick "never sit out at tournament tables" it has been missing a few and doesn't sit back in :(

Resulting in probably 10 games down the tube because I didn't notice them. So whenever I'm going on break going to have to be very diligent about checking ALL the tables cause people steal your blinds like crazy when you're sitting out!!

Eye So late

Eww, Minnesota dumped another 12 inches on us so I had to get the shovel out again. But no matter - I'm in miracle territory baby!!

Played 9 games today, made 3 final tables :) :) I'm going for another session tonight, but will grind a bit more volume, strictly $6's today.

Talked a bit over some hands today with Ben (personangrta) and he inspired me to start looking at my isolating game. And so far I don't really isolate that wide or even that frequently, and I may even underestimate how good that move is. Right now I usually only do it with AQ, AJ, ATs, 77/88+ and most other hands I'm limping behind. But here are a few thoughts:

on position
* Raising limpers puts me in a great spot if it's late position, especially the button.
* Raising the cutoff is still great, although the button might call - I'm still "buying the button" if they fold.
* Raising from the hi-jack seems meh, but if I don't have loose players in the btn/co then I can see how it could work
* Any other position I feel too exposed to isolate too wide or aggressively, any of the late positions can flat or squeeze forcing me to fold.

on the players:
* When I see 2 good (or even semi-tight) players limping and it folds around - it looks like they have 2 speculative 44/78s kind of hands. Player 1 might have a strong hand but no way does player 2 have the goods. It's straight from Colin Moshman's book but its spot on. But more to the point, you just don't see 'regs' limp-reraising monsters enough for it to be a major factor. So isolating here most likely results in both of them folding instantly, or if they have odds they might see a flop but probably fold without much Resistance.
* Against a really loose/passive player (ie: 45/5), you can probably expect them to call the iso. But really this creates some dead money because you can manuever around on the flop or turn and take it down. Of course there are straight up calling stations, so maybe isolating isn't the best plan and limping behind is more effective.
* Against a player who NEVER RAISES I used to think "they never raise anything so AA/KK/QQ/AK/AQ are always going to be in their range" so I would actually fear isolating them, but I've come to realize even though monsters are in their range - their whole range is so wide on average (40-60% sometimes) that I can't fear the 5% that crushes me. And if they do limp-reraise, which is rare, I can instamuck w/o thought. I'm sure that limping behind these sort of players is actually good as well, because you get to stack them easily knowing so many big hands are in their range.

* Whether to iso or limp behind depends on how much you think you'll get paid off versus how much they'll fold or flat/fold without much resistance.

* So against the 'average' sort of players it would seem that isolating would be the best because they'll call out of position trying to hit, and most of the time they won't!

How many players?
* To this day I haven't iso'd more than 1-2 players without a pretty strong hand. The more players there are, the larger the chance you will get called or reraised. But from a railbird's point of view - those limps look weak!
* If 4 players limp at 40/80, and you can raise making them all fold - you just stole 3.5 rounds of blinds.
* If one of the players calls your 500c raise (ie with 33 or 89s) and you steal it on an A72 board - that's 7 rounds of blinds. Damn, take that Harrinton!!!!

Now I'm going to have to try this out,
til next time!

Finally end of winter in Minnesota

Yes, it's 35 degrees and that is sweeeeet. After coming out of 2 months of -10 degree it feels like summer.

I'm finally over being fired from my last band, and emotionally it was tough. Never been fired from anything before really, but I picked myself back up, applied for about 15 different random jobs, and starting putting out feelers to see what other bands are out there. Already got into one group, so I'm psyched about that and it gives me something to do on the weekends now.

As far as poker goes:
-Monday was 3rd most profitable day so far for me, $227.00
-Tuesday I broke my record for games played: 72
-Wednesday I broke it again: 82!

Unfortunately I didn't make bucketloads on those days, but at least I'm diligently practicing the 16 tabling and getting better at managing decisions and prioritizing whats going on.

- Here are the $3.30s, almost a 500 game b/e stretch my god. I'm pretty sure that began when I started mixing in the 6s....

-And my progress thus far on the $6.50s

Dunno guys, I'm starting to doubt how well I can 16 table looking at that. Maybe I'll drop a few and just grind out 10-12 tables over the next week or so and gauge how comfortable I am. It kinda looks I hit some kind of psychological block after adding the 6's or maybe I can't handle mixing them with so many tables right now. Quality over quantity right?

Other than being all results oriented these are things I think I've come pretty far in:
-Reading peoples playing styles
-Interpreting donk bets and attacking them
-Restealing - this is a tough move to pulloff in these games, but when I can target the right player it works great!
-Bet sizing on my good hands
-And probably most important - CHECK CALLING. This is something I'm doing waaaaay more with my iffy hands.
-c-betting or delayed c-betting, as well as position betting/bluffing.

My remaining goals for February:
1) Get in 600 more games
2) Find my leaks, is it really too many tables, or something else?
3) Go back and review the hands I have noted from the past but haven't examined yet
4) Exercise/weightlift a little before sessions to warm up and get my mind clear.

Alright peace everybody!!
